Finally, the day Cambridge has been waiting for has arrived! The east section of the delta bridge is scheduled to open today.
For years the intersection locally referred to as the Delta (where Hwy.24 and Hwy.8 meet) has been a constant aggravation to those in the region. With the frequent crossings of the painfully slow and long trains on the CP line the term being “stuck at the Delta” became a local colloquialism.
The $25 million dollar redesigned overpass promises to allivate the traffic congestion caused by the trains and aid first responders who have too frequently been delayed in their arrival at emergencies by being unable to cross the tracks in a timely manner. Cambridge fire chief Bill Chesney said “This is an historic day for the city.” “It’s going to make things a lot easier for us getting to a call.”
While the work is not nearly done this first major milestone is certainly a great step toward the completion of the project.
