South Preston is nestled between the banks of the Grand River and Preston’s charming downtown, that runs along King Street. Wrapped by the open greenspace of Linear Park, South Preston offers a great location for enjoying nature while maintaining a very high Walk Score with it’s easy access to the downtown.
This neighbourhood is almost exclusively residential, with the exception of King Street, and offers mostly single family detached homes which vary widely in age. Stunning two story brick century homes are located just a few blocks from split levels built in the 1970`s with a view of the Grand River.
The community is also home to The Preston Memorial Auditorium, affectionately called “The Aud” and the Karl Homuth Arena, once home to the Preston Rivulettes, a team that dominated women’s hockey through the 1930’s.
Students from throughout Preston have attended Preston High since it opened its doors in 1956 many of whom were graduates of Grand View elementary school, which was originally the location for Preston`s High School prior to the current location on Rose Street. Grand View underwent a complete rebuild with the demolition of the old red brick school and the opening of a brand new, state of the art elementary school in 2012.
South Preston is an established community of long term residents, evident by one of the lowest turnover rates in the city. If this is a neighbourhood you are interested in let us know and we will keep our ears open for you. Even if a move is a few years away for you, in lower turnover neighbourhoods it is always best to give yourself lots of time.
